The Christmas Story

Yesterday, I heard someone say, “I’m excited about going to church this weekend for Christmas.”
Then they said something that made my heart skip a beat.
They said, “But I wish I could hear a new message.”
ME: What do you mean? It’s Christmas. It will be the Christmas story.”
They said, “I know. But it’s boring. It’s the same story every Christmas.”

When they saw my face fall and turn about 3 sheets of white, they quickly said, “You know what I mean…”

Sadly, I think they were just expressing what many of us feel this time of year. Our expectations are raised too high, we expect a lot, and we want something new and exciting to entertain us - bells and whistles and shiny ornaments and bright lights.

But, like I told this friend:
“There is nothing more exciting than the Christmas story. How can the fact that the God of the universe, who is Spirit, took on flesh and became Immanuel, God with us, be boring? The greatest part of the story is that He loved us (easily bored, distracted, and fickle people) so much that he humbled himself to come as a baby and in 33 short years he changed the world. He died a gruesome death for us, to take our place, so we can have eternal life with the Father.”

Christmas is all about salvation. Maybe in all the hoopla of Christmas, with the gifts and decorations, we forget the simplicity of the Christmas message. Maybe we miss the awesomeness of the gift Jesus wants to give us because it's not brightly packed with ribbons and glitter. It’s not placed beneath a beautifully decorated Christmas tree with all the trimmings but it is placed under a plain, rough, rugged cross, blood stained, and nail pierced.

SO, HERE IS THE CHRISTMAS STORY

Once upon a time, 2000+ years ago, God, our Savior, showed His kindness and love. He saved us, not because of the good things we do, but because of His mercy. Daily, He washes away our sins and gives us a new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously pours out the Spirit upon us because of what Jesus Christ our Savior did. He declares us not guilty because of His great kindness.
And now we know we will inherit eternal life.

These things are all trustworthy and true. (Titus 3:4-8)

What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole.
You never saw him, yet you love him. You still don’t see him, yet you trust him—with laughter and singing. Because you kept on believing, you’ll get what you’re looking forward to: total salvation. (1 Peter 1:3-9 MSG)

Jesus’ prayer for all of us is that we will be one, just as the Father and He are one. Just as the Father is in Jesus, and Jesus in the Father, so we will be in them, and the world will believe God sent Jesus to save the world from sin. For God so loved the world that He gave His only son, so that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life. Jesus said, "This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." (John 17:20; John 3:16; John 17:3)

So, this Christmas, don’t miss the simplistic beauty of the Christmas story.
It's not boring.
It is wondrous!
It is a miracle!
Jesus is handing you His gift from that rugged tree. Extend you hand and open your heart to receive it.

My prayer is that those who have ears to hear - hear.
Those who have eyes to see - see.
Those whose hearts are open to receive - receive.
And those who believe - declare.

If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.  (Romans 10:9-10)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Love,
Yolanda

This Christmas, Are You in Search of The King?

For some reason I feel a little lost this Christmas.
I feel like one of the Wise Men in search of the King, following the Star of Bethlehem.
But the star is off in the distance.
I feel like I’m chasing it, stumbling over myself to get there.
The journey has been challenging this year. Spiritual battles have worn me down and tested my faith. And, I'll admit, I failed some of those tests.
However, the testing revealed some flaws in my character and faith that I am praying about.
I'm weak, easily shaken, and can fall into the trap of being legalistic. Not good. So, I feel a little bruised and battered.
But just like the Wise Men, I’m not giving up this journey until I’m in the presence of The King.

This Christmas, I just want to rest in His presence. I don’t want to dwell on the past or worry about the future. I just want to be in the moment, kneeling in the presence of my Savior and LORD. I want to experience what the Wise Men felt when they saw Jesus Christ, The King. I want to praise Him in the Spirit and I want to lay down my heart at His feet. It is the only treasure I have and the only one Jesus wants.

So, I'm taking a breather. I'm breathing in the Spirit of God for awhile. I'm allowing the Holy Spirit to recharge my battery, to give me a new perspective, to strengthen and refresh me. I have a feeling that in 2017, I'm going to need it. Many Christian prophetic voices have been saying that a spiritual and physical shaking is coming next year. That means, as Believers and Followers of Jesus Christ, we have to be grounded firmly on the Word of God and we must plant our feet on the solid rock foundation of Jesus Christ. No turning left and no turning right. Just looking up and keeping watch.

So this Christmas, I'm just going to concentrate on giving Him thanks and praise for every blessing He has bestowed on me, my family, and my nation in 2016. And, my prayer for 2017 is Psalm 138. God, finish what you started in me. Your love is eternal, don't quit on me now. In Jesus Name. Amen.

My prayer for anyone reading this post who feels a little lost, worn, and battered by the trials of this year, is that you join me in my journey to be in the healing presence of the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, and Savior Jesus Christ. I love the words to the song by Elevation Worship in the video below,  "Are you hurting and broken...have you come to the end of yourself? Do you thirst for a drink from the well? Jesus is calling. Oh, come to the altar. The Father's arms are open wide. Forgiveness was bought with the precious blood of Jesus Christ."

Merry Christmas. May Jesus bring you comfort and joy this season.
Love,
Yolanda

Psalm 138 (MSG)
Thank you! Everything in me says “Thank you!”
Angels listen as I sing my thanks.
I kneel in worship facing your holy temple and say it again: “Thank you!”
Thank you for your love, thank you for your faithfulness;
Most holy is your name, most holy is your Word.
The moment I called out, you stepped in;
you made my life large with strength.
When they hear what you have to say, GOD,
all earth’s kings will say “Thank you.”
They’ll sing of what you’ve done:
“How great the glory of GOD!”
And here’s why: GOD, high above, sees far below;
no matter the distance, he knows everything about us.
When I walk into the thick of trouble,
keep me alive in the angry turmoil.
With one hand strike my foes,
With your other hand save me.
Finish what you started in me, GOD.
Your love is eternal—don’t quit on me now.

Second Chance Run

So, today I ran my first 5K in 6 months.
In 2015, I ran six races. I was on fire!
Then in 2016, I don’t know what happened.
OK, I know. I got lazy, distracted, comfortable, and kept saying, “maƱana.”

The fire burned out.
I stopped running.
I did half-hearted workouts at the gym.
Instead of going 5 days a week, I was lucky if I went 3.

Today, I struggled. I was disappointed because I knew that I had let the cares of this world distract me from running my race with endurance. I had grown weak.

BUT, the good news is that at least I did it!
At least I got up at 5:30, got my tennis shoes on, and showed up.
At least, I kept putting one foot in front of the other and I crossed the finish line. My time was only 6 minutes longer than my best clocked time.
And, what a glorious morning it was listening to my worship music and talking (breathlessly) to Jesus.

This was my second chance run. I was reminded of my purpose: to be healthy, to have energy, and to inspire others to run their race.

As I ran, I prayed for America.
America has been given a 2nd chance run.
We, Christians, over the years had let America get out of shape. We had grown lazy, complacent, distracted, and while we slumbered our nation moved further and further from God.
We’ve been given a second chance to get spiritually fit again.
But it is going to take being committed to doing the work to stay healthy.

You see, as Believers and Followers of Jesus Christ, we are all part of the same body. Jesus is our head but we all support the body. If one of our body parts is unhealthy, than the rest of the body suffers.  Even if part of the body is working out as hard as they can, eating healthy, and taking time to rest, if the rest of body is neglecting to do their part, than the whole body stumbles and falls.

In this 2nd chance run, it is going to take the whole body to keep America healthy.
We cannot go back to being lazy, complacent, distracted by the cares of this world and neglect our spiritual health.

So, just like I’m going back to training and running. As Children of God and members of the Body of Jesus Christ, we need to:

GO TO CHURCH!

More and more, I am meeting people who profess to be Christians but no longer go to church. When asked, they say:
“I home church.”
“I’m not plugged into a church right now.”
“I don’t really think church is necessary.”
And so on and so on, excuse after excuse.

But this is what Jesus says,
“In the last days, Christians will fall way from the faith. As evil and lawlessness increase, instead of drawing close to Me, the love Christians had for Me will grow cold.”  (Matthew 24:12)

God has given us this warning so that we will know what to do to avoid growing cold. He said, “Don’t stop going to church as many are in the habit of doing. Keep going and encourage one another to go, especially as you see the day of Jesus return approaching. (Hebrews 10:25)

Even though America has been given a second chance, the Bible has not changed. God’s End Times plan is still unfolding. All signs point to the return of Jesus Christ drawing near. So now is not the time to pull away from Him. Now, is the time to stick closer than ever. Now is time to know the Word of God and to share it.

God wants us to go to church because it is His home. He opens up His house to us and invites us to dine with Him at His table. As we walk through His doors, He removes our coat of darkness and sin that we have worn throughout the week and hangs it up at the cross. God knows how easy it is for us to lose our way, how quickly we can grow weary, and how vicious the attacks of the enemy can be. That is why He wants us to come home so that He can nourish us with His Word. He can heal our wounds inflicted by the enemy. He wants us to rest in His presence so that He can strengthen us to keep fighting the good fight.

If you are not going to church, God is inviting you to come home. He is standing with open arms to receive you. Find a church that opens up God’s Word and teaches the scriptures. If the Bible is not opened and they do not mention the Name of Jesus, run away from that church. Find a church that teaches Salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone. Find a church where the Holy Spirit is invited into their worship, where the Spirit of God is alive and flowing through the hearts of the congregation. Take your children to church so that they will value it as a priority in their lives, so that they will love God and experience His goodness in their lives.

So this Thanksgiving, let us be thankful for God’s unfailing love and mercy, for His salvation. Let us be thankful for this 2nd chance run. Let us stay spiritually healthy, so that when Jesus comes back He will find us running the race He assigned us. For when He returns, He is bringing our reward with Him to give everyone according to how they ran their race. (Revelation 22:12)

Yolanda

The Rocky Balboa Prayer of Protection for America

One of my favorite movie series of all times is Rocky.
I, II, III, IV and so on. I've watched them all.
I love that he’s the underdog that never gives up.
Even when you want to say, “Rocky, just stay down already.”
But, Rocky never quits.
I love the training scenes when he has “the eye of the tiger”, determined and courageous.
He always enters the ring facing an enemy fighter who is bigger, stronger, and supported by influential, heartless, corrupt moneymakers.

On November 8th, I feel like America became Rocky.
We were knocked down and it looked like we were going down for the count.
But in those final moments, we found our inner strength and courage. The Spirit that founded this nation was renewed in us.
So we stood, a little bloody and bruised, and we looked right in the eye of the enemy and said, “We are not going down with out a fight.”

Now, we've entered the final round and across the ring from us is an angry and bitter enemy. He’s got his cohorts at his ringside who are plotting evil schemes to hit dirty and to steal the victory.

But, what they underestimate is who is in America’s corner.
GOD.
He is our trainer. He is our champion. He is our Father. He is our protector.
He is on the ringside shouting, “Get up! Rise up! Stand up! Fight! I’m right here with you.”

So, how do we fight this final round for the victory?
Raising our fists. NO!!!!
Our Trainer, GOD Almighty, has told us to unleash our secret weapon for victory in this final round.

PRAYER! WE NEED TO FIGHT IN THE SPIRIT!

Because the fight is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:10-12

So, are you ready to win? Because there is more than a championship belt at stake. Our persecuted brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the world are crying out for a champion and are looking to America for help. God established and blessed this nation so it would be a light on a hill, so that from our shores we would give aide to the hungry, hurting, widows, and orphans.  God has given us a spirit of courage, compassion, and bravery so that we could be protectors of the persecuted and innocent. We have been sidelined for awhile but God is giving us a second chance to get back to fulfilling our calling. Our destiny was to spread the Gospel and fulfill The Great Commission and our work as a nation is not done yet.

So put on your spiritual gloves, Believers because the fight's not over yet. It is time to pray and fight in the Spirit!

Pray for the President-elect, for his Vice President, for his cabinet, for his advisers. Pray that God gives them wisdom and integrity to lead our nation for His Divine purposes. Pray that they are guided by the Holy Spirit, stand FIRM on God's Word, and serve to do God's will, because God works all thing for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purposes. And pray for their protection against all attacks of enemy and a peaceful transition of power.

Love,
Yolanda

PRAYER OF PROTECTION
O LORD, rescue us from evil people.
Protect us from those who are violent, who plot evil in their hearts
and stir up trouble all day long long.
Their tongues sting like a snake; their venom of a viper drips from their lips.
O, LORD, keep us out the hands of the wicked.
Protect us from those who are violent, for they are plotting against us.
The proud have set a trap to catch us; they have stretched out a net;
they have placed traps all along the way.
I said to the LORD, “You are my God! Listen, O LORD, to my cries for mercy!”
LORD, do not let evil people have their way.
Do not let their evil schemes succeed.
Let our enemies be destroyed by the very evil they have planned.
Don’t let liars prosper here in our land.
But, I know the LORD will help those they persecute;
he will give justice to the poor.
Surely righteous people are praising your name;
the godly will live Your presence.
Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance. From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth—
he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.
No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;
despite all its great strength, it cannot save.
But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.
We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.
In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.
May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord,
even as we put our hope in you.
We pray in Jesus Name. Amen!
Psalm 140; Ps. 33:12-22

What We Should Learn From Abraham Lincoln

In the midst of the horrors of the Civil War, Senator James Harlan, introduced a Resolution in the Senate on March 2, 1863. The Resolution asked President Lincoln to proclaim a national day of prayer and fasting to restore healing over the nation. The nation was being ripped apart by the Civil War as brother fought against brother, father against son, neighbor against neighbor.  Sound eerily familiar to what is happening today?

The Senator’s Resolution stated:
"We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us!

It behooves us then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness…
All this being done, in sincerity and truth, let us then rest humbly in the hope authorized by the Divine teachings, that the united cry of the Nation will be heard on high, and answered with blessings, no less than the pardon of our national sins, and the restoration of our now divided and suffering Country, to its former happy condition of unity and peace.”*

Senator Harlan recognized the need for God’s divine intervention to restore and unite a country divided. Abraham Lincoln agreed, so he issued A Proclamation of a Day of Fasting. Abraham Lincoln wrote:

“And whereas, when our own beloved Country, once, by the blessing of God, united, prosperous and happy, is now afflicted with faction and civil war, it is peculiarly fit for us to recognize the hand of God in this terrible visitation, and in sorrowful remembrance of our own faults and crimes as a nation and as individuals, to humble ourselves before Him, and to pray for His mercy, -- to pray that we may be spared further punishment, though most justly deserved; that our arms may be blessed and made effectual for the re-establishment of law, order and peace, throughout the wide extent of our country; and that the inestimable boon of civil and religious liberty, earned under His guidance and blessing, by the labors and sufferings of our fathers, may be restored in all its original excellence: --
Therefore, I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, do appoint the last Thursday in September next, as a day of humiliation, prayer and fasting for all the people of the nation. And I do earnestly recommend to all the People, and especially to all ministers and teachers of religion of all denominations, and to all heads of families, to observe and keep that day according to their several creeds and modes of worship, in all humility and with all religious solemnity, to the end that the united prayer of the nation may ascend to the Throne of Grace and bring down plentiful blessings upon our Country.”**

Today, as civil unrest is erupting on our streets, let us learn from Abraham Lincoln and history what it takes to heal a nation divided – united, national prayer and fasting. “Abraham Lincoln led the US through the Civil War – its bloodiest war and its greatest moral, constitutional, and political crisis. In doings so, he preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the economy.” Quote from https://www.crossroadsinitiative.com/media/articles/proclamation-of-national-day-of-prayer-and-fasting/

God will bless a nation who humbles itself, repents, and prays.  We are in the midst of a modern day civil war as brother is fighting against brother, father against son, and neighbor against neighbor. Not only in the street as riots and violent protests have broken out but on social media as friendships have ended, family ties have been strained, and words have been spoken that cannot be taken back.

If the nation can heal from the bloodiest war in American history, we can heal from the results of an election. We need to stop seeing one another as the enemy, as left and right, blue and red. We need to see each other as fellow Americans, all wanting the same thing: a safe, prosperous, free, flourishing country that is best for our children and grandchildren.

Will you join me in praying daily and fasting at least once a week for our nation, from now until the inauguration on January 20, 2017?
Pray for divine protection over our nation from spiritual and physical attacks of the enemy. Pray no weapon formed against us will prosper.
Pray for peace, righteousness, and justice to be restored in our city streets.
Pray for the safety and security of our law enforcement officers and first defenders.
Pray for economic blessings so that those who are without work can return to work.
Pray for wisdom, courage, and integrity in our political leaders.
Pray for a peaceful transition of power from now until the inauguration.
Pray for healing in relationships among friends, family, and communities.
Pray the spirit of fear, coming from the enemy, is lifted from our nation and individuals. And, for the spirit of peace, courage, and sound mind that comes from God to flow over our nation and into the hearts and minds of the people.
And like Abraham Lincoln, let us pray the “united prayer of the nation ascend to the Throne of Grace and bring down plentiful blessings upon our Country”, in Jesus Name. Amen.

Love,
Yolanda

This Was Our Wake Up Call

God has given America a reprieve and we rejoice! The soul of America was on the line and God breathed life into us again. Thank you, LORD.
Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good!
“LORD, help!” they cried in their trouble, and he rescued them from their distress.” (Psalm 107)
Hallelujah!!!
But what now?
This election has brought us to our knees in prayer...
This election has awaken the Church from its slumber...
Now, we must never slumber in complacency, apathy, and indifference, growing lukewarm again.
We must never retreat from the spiritual battle again.
Jesus told the church of Laodicea (Revelation 3:19) “Be diligent and turn from your indifference.”
We must give thanks and see this moment for what it is, a modern day miracle in our lifetime.
We must remember this moment as a parting the red sea, defeating the giant, surviving the lion’s den miracle moment. We must tell our children and our grandchildren of God’s mercy and grace bestowed on us today.
This was all God.
This was not man.
This was His victory and we stood still and saw the Salvation of our LORD.
In His unfailing love and mercy, He gave His people a chance to wake up.
This was our wake up call!

Now, we must stay alert, keep watch, read His Word, get back to church, speak out, reach out, share the Gospel, and ask for the Holy Spirit to unite us.
We are a divided nation and many are waking up fearful this morning.
Jesus said, “How will the world know you are My people? By your love.”
We are called to love one another as Christ loved us.
It’s up to the church to bridge the divide through the power of the Holy Spirit.
That is what this reprieve is for.
It’s time to stop being silent about our faith.
It's time to put our faith in action, through good works, service, maybe even public office.
It’s time to stop being politically correct.
It’s time to share the hope of Jesus that sustained us this election season, with those who need the hope we have.
No more excuses.

My scripture reading this morning read:
Psalm 107:42-43
The godly will see these things and be glad, while the wicked are stricken silent. Those who are wise will take this to heart; they will see in our history the faithful love of the LORD.

So, Church let us be wise and take this reprieve to heart. We have seen the faithful love of the LORD. He heard our cries for mercy and was merciful. Let us give Him glory and praise! BUT, we must not put down our spiritual armor. The enemy will not take his defeat lying down. Our enemy goes around like a roaring lion seeing whom he will devour. We must continue to pray without ceasing for our nation, especially from now until the inauguration.

This morning, I am giving thanks for the miracle I got to witness in my lifetime, but I also have a deep sense in my spirit that God is calling His church, calling me, to use this time wisely. This revival that came to our nation must not diminish but it must flourish and grow throughout the land, healing our nation. May we once again be a beacon of light to the nations, shining God’s goodness and mercy.
My prayer is:
Romans 13:11-14 (MSG)
Yolanda, make sure that you don’t get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God. The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing! God is putting the finishing touches on the salvation work he began when we first believed. We can’t afford to waste a minute, must not squander these precious daylight hours in frivolity and indulgence, in sleeping around and dissipation, in bickering and grabbing everything in sight. Get out of bed and get dressed! Don’t loiter and linger, waiting until the very last minute. Dress yourselves in Christ, and be up and about!

Love,
Yolanda

Prayer for America

LORD GOD, today as thousands upon thousands of Your Followers fast and pray, interceding for America, we boldly come before Your throne, fall on our face in humility and ask for Your mercy and grace on our nation.

LORD, we are:
David facing a boasting Goliath
Moses confronting a cruel Pharaoh
Daniel surrounded by devouring lions
Esther against the corrupt schemes of Haman

And just like Esther went before the king, we go before the King of Kings, and ask You to save us from the evil schemes of the enemy.  We know that we do not battle against flesh and blood but against the powers of darkness. How do we fight the spiritual battle, LORD, only through prayer and speaking Your Word. We pray that You unleash Your angel army over our land, that You give them the power to defeat the demonic forces that have created strongholds over our land. We pray that chains of bondage and deception are broken, in Jesus Name.  We pray for the eyes of the blind to be open, that the veil of deception is lifted.  We pray for spiritual revival and renewal over the land. We pray for Your Holy Spirit to sweep over the oceans, valleys, mountains, cities, from sea to shining sea, penetrating hearts and souls.

We speak Your Word over the nation.
You are the KING of Kings and LORD of Lords.
The enemy is a defeated foe.
You, Jesus, have the keys to the earth. You rule the earth from Your throne in heaven. We ask that You restore justice to our government. We ask for Your divine protection over the nation. We ask that You prevent corruption and fraud in this election. We give You all the glory and all the honor for the miracle work You are doing and will accomplish. We ask that You give us peace these next few days that surpasses understanding. That we offer hope to those who feel hopeless, that we offer strength to those who feel weak, that we offer wisdom to those who are confused, that we offer Your love to those who are broken. We ask for unity to be restored among the people of this land. We ask for Your blessings because You are a God of unfailing love and unending mercy.

Let today be the day that America turns back to You. Give us the courage and faith to face the outcome, in Jesus Name. Amen.

Walking In Spiritual Confidence In Uncertain Times

Days before this presidential election, I feel overwhelmed and deeply saddened by the amount of corruption, greed, and evil that has infiltrated all levels of government. Just when you think it could not get any worse, more wickedness is revealed. I wonder is there anyone left in halls of justice that will fight for truth and righteousness? Who can the American people trust?

When doubt creeps in and faith is hard to find, God always provides hope through the pages of His Word. Recently, I was reading about the prophet Habakkuk. Habakkuk lived in a time when violence, corruption, and evil dominated his country. My Bible commentary says, “It was a time of fear, oppression, persecution, lawlessness, and immorality.”* When I read that I thought, “Wow, that totally sounds like today’s headlines.”

Habakkuk was deeply saddened by all he saw and he cried out to the LORD:
“How long, O LORD, must I call for help? But you do not listen!
'Violence is everywhere!’ I cry, but you do not come to save.
Must I forever see these evil deeds?
Why must I watch all this misery?
Wherever I look, I see destruction and violence.
I am surrounded by people who love to argue and fight.
The law has become paralyzed, and there is no justice in the courts.
The wicked far outnumber the righteous, so that justice has become perverted.”

The LORD replied,
“Look around at the nations; look and be amazed!
For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it.”

So, Habkkuk said, “ I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guard post.
There I will wait to see what the LORD says and how he will answer my complaint.”

Then the LORD answered Habakkuk:
“Write my answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed. Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked.  But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God.
Wealth is treacherous, and the arrogant are never at rest.
They open their mouths as wide as the grave, and like death, they are never satisfied.
In their greed they have gathered up many nations and swallowed many peoples.
But soon their captives will taunt them. They will mock them, saying, “What sorrow awaits you thieves! Now you will get what you deserve! You’ve become rich by extortion, but how much longer can this go on?’
Suddenly, your debtors will take action. They will turn on you and take all you have, while you stand trembling and helpless.
Because you have plundered many nations, now all the survivors will plunder you.
You committed murder throughout the countryside and filled the towns with violence.
What sorrow awaits you who build big houses with money gained dishonestly!
You believe your wealth will buy security, putting your family’s nest beyond the reach of danger.
But by the murders you committed, you have shamed your name and forfeited your lives.
The very stones in the walls cry out against you, and the beams in the ceilings echo the complaint.
What sorrow awaits you who build cities with money gained through murder and corruption!
Has not the LORD of Heaven’s Armies promised that the wealth of nations will turn to ashes?
They work so hard, but all in vain!
For as the waters fill the sea, the earth will be filled with an awareness of the glory of the LORD.”

The answer God gave Habakkuk is the same answer God is giving us today. He is not blind to the evil and corruption that is taking place. He is at work in ways we cannot imagine or understand. The wicked will not get away with their schemes forever. He wants us to trust Him and live by faith.  My Bible commentary says, “God is alive and in control of the world and its events. We cannot see all that God is doing, and we cannot see all that God will do. But we can be assured that he is God and will do what is right. Knowing this can give us confidence and hope in a confusing world.”*

So, in these confusing days, let us go up to our watchtower, stand guard, and scan the heavens knowing that God is working all things for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Then we can confidently pray like Habakkuk prayed:

I have heard all about you, LORD.
I am filled with awe by your amazing works.
In this time of our deep need, help us again as you did in years gone by.
And in your anger, remember your mercy.
I see God moving across the deserts from Edom, the Holy One coming from Mount Paran.
His brilliant splendor fills the heavens, and the earth is filled with his praise.
His coming is as brilliant as the sunrise.
Rays of light flash from his hands, where his awesome power is hidden.
When he stops, the earth shakes.
When he looks, the nations tremble.
He shatters the everlasting mountains and levels the eternal hills.
He is the Eternal One!
You went out to rescue your chosen people, to save your anointed ones.
I will rejoice in the LORD!
I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!
The Sovereign LORD is my strength (my source of courage; my invincible army)!
He makes my feet steady and sure.
He makes me walk forward with spiritual confidence on my high places of challenge and responsibility.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, regardless of how the election turns out, there are difficult days ahead: the economy, civil unrest, wars and rumors of wars, etc. But in these Last Days, God has promised to not leave us or forsake us. We walk forward on November 9th with spiritual confidence knowing that God is good. God is just. God loves us. And all signs point to our greatest hope, that Jesus is coming back soon! So until then, we are called by God to be Habakkuks. We are to keep watch, stand firm on God's Word, and we are to write and share plainly His message of salvation in Christ Jesus.

Love,
Yolanda

Why Christians Who Don't Vote Annoy Me

In 2008, ten million evangelical Christians were eligible to vote but were unregistered.*
Nine million were registered but did not vote.*
And look what has happened to our nation since 2008.
Basically, the nation has gone to hell in a hand-basket.

OK, OK, I know this sounds dramatic but it really annoys me when I hear my fellow Christians say,
“I’m not voting.”
“I don’t like any of the presidential candidates so I’m just not going to vote.”  Hello! What about all the other stuff on the ballet?
“God’s in control anyways so it doesn’t matter if I vote.”
“There’s too much fraud in this election so what’s the point.”

I could go on and on with the multiple excuses I’ve heard, but it just annoys me to type them all.

These Christians remind me of the 10 spies that totally blew it for the Israelites. Remember in Numbers 13-14, God tells Moses, “Send 12 spies into the land of Canaan, which I’m giving to the children of Israel.” Basically, God was saying, “Go check out this great land I’m giving to you.” Moses even told the 12, “Be of good courage” because he trusted the power of God to go with them.

Well, the spies came back and said, “Man, the land is awesome. Flowing with milk and honey. But it’s scary over there. The enemies are stronger than us. We’ll never be able to defeat them.” So they gave a bad report to all the Israelites and scared them from going into the land.

Joshua and Caleb were like, “Hey, don’t you remember all the miracles God did for us in the past. The parting of the Red Sea thing where God destroyed the Egyptian army was pretty amazing. We can totally defeat these enemies because we have God on our side.”

But the 10 spies turned the people against them. So God said, “OK, you don’t want the land that I promised you, with all its blessings? Fine. Wander in the desert for 40 years.”

OK, OK, so I paraphrased the story a bit, but basically that’s how I feel right now. There are some amazing Christian leaders that are the Joshua and Calebs of today, imploring Christians to pray and vote. They are shouting out, “Hey, don’t you remember how God blessed America in the past. Don’t you remember that He is able to perform miracles and defeat enemies? America could be great again. God could restore our blessings, if we only return to Him.”

But these brave, few voices are being drowned out by the rest of the 10 spies who want to moan and groan, complain and whine, and wash their hands of the whole process.

Some may read this and think one vote is not that big a deal.
BUT IT IS!!!
In 2012, 25 million Christians did not vote. And, the election was determined by less than 5 million votes.
So, yes, there will be major corruption this election.
Yes, the odds are against us.
Yes, there is an evil spiritual battle raging.

But in the darkness of the battle is where God's glory shines brightest. We must be praying like never before! On our knees, interceding for our nation.
2 Samuel 24:25 says, “The LORD was moved by prayer for the land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14 says, “If my people, who are called by my name will humble themselves, turn from their wicked ways, and pray…I will heal their land.”

God was not happy with the 10 spies. He said, “How long will these people reject Me? And how long will they not believe Me, with all the signs which I have performed among them?”

God honored Caleb and Joshua for their faith, for their courage, for their boldness to speak the truth in the midst of the lies. They knew their God would be with them in the battle for the promise land. He had performed miracles on their behalf in the past and they knew they could count on Him to do miracles in the future.

We must take our stand with the Joshuas and Calebs of today. We must NOT be counted among the 10 spies. If we do, we will miss out on the promise land. We will condemn our children to wander the desert.

God is in control of this election. God is in control of the outcome. God is Ruler of this nation. God is Ruler over the world. So nothing is going to happen that God has not ordained to happen. But, God has called His people to stand for truth, to hold tight to what is good, and to protect the lives of the innocent and unborn. Let me point out, out of the two main presidential candidates in this election, only one is pro-life. And only one has stated he will appoint Supreme Court judges that will uphold the constitution as it was intended by our Founding Fathers.

"On Nov. 8, the stakes get higher: The next president could appoint up to four justices, with an aging court and one vacant seat left by the late Antonin Scalia...In casting a vote Nov. 8, remember the impact federal courts can have on the fundamental religious freedoms of Christians, and how your vote could affect the future of Gospel proclamation in America." Quote from article, A Supreme Decision, by BGEA

I’d like to end with a very profound statement my hubby said this morning. I mentioned going to see the Kirk Cameron film, Revive Us, on Monday 24th. He asked me what it was about and I told him it is a call by many Christian leaders to pray for revival in our nation. My hubby said, “Wow. Maybe this is the revival.”

Huh?

You see, I’ve been praying over this election because I want a President that will preserve religious freedom so that we can continue to worship without threat of persecution.

But, what if that very real threat of coming persecution is what is rising up the Joshuas and Calebs? What if the sleeping church is finally waking up because the hour is growing late and the night is quickly approaching? What if God is using this time to bring us to our knees in intercessory prayer for the nation because we see the writing on the wall? What if this is the very spiritual revival I’ve been praying for? What if this is God’s way of asking His church, “Will you be my Caleb and Joshua? Or are you one of the 10 spies who does not believe I still can perform miracles?”

I can imagine that Joshua and Caleb were pretty annoyed by the 10 spies because even though God allowed them to enter the promise land, they had to wander in the desert for 40 years along with everyone else.  So, I implore you my brothers and sisters in Christ who are contemplating not voting this election, take a step of faith towards the promise land. Remember we serve a God of miracles. Vote for life. Vote to protect the unborn. Be a voice for the voiceless. God will honor our step of faith. We do our part and leave the battle to the LORD.

Love,
Yolanda

Hebrews 11:6 (AMP)
But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him.

America is Spiritual

Recently, I watched a speech by former Congressman, Bob McEwen, entitled “A Time Such As This" and he said a very profound statement.
“Being an American is not physical. Being an American is spiritual. It’s what you believe. It’s what you stand for... America is spiritual.”

Because being an American is spiritual, people can come from all over the world and become Americans. They choose to embrace the American spirit. However, that spirit is based on God’s Word. Our founding fathers laid the very foundation of our nation on the Bible. All you have to do is look at our national monuments covered in scripture and the Washington Monument’s capstone that has the Latin words, “Praise be to God”.

Because America is spiritual, the battle for the soul of America is a spiritual battle. God clearly warned us:

Ephesians 6:12-13 (AMP)
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places. Therefore, put on the complete armor of God, so that you will be able to [successfully] resist and stand your ground in the evil day [of danger], and having done everything [that the crisis demands], to stand firm [in your place, fully prepared, immovable, victorious].

So many times through out the Old Testament, the Israelites made the mistake of looking to man, nations, kings, and foreign armies to help them. They would get defeated, turn back to God, and ask for His help. God, in His unfailing love and mercy, would come to their rescue. I can't find fault with them because I find myself doing the same thing. I want a leader, a president, a modern day David to come and rescue us. But God asked me this morning, after a disappointing political evening, “Do you trust ME?” And without hesitating, I said, “God, you know I’m afraid but I trust You.”

Throughout the Bible, God would place His Followers in seemingly impossible situations:
Facing a dead end at the Red Sea
Facing the lions in the lion's den
Facing the fiery furnace
Facing a giant
Facing enemy armies when they were outnumbered
Facing an angry mob
Facing shipwreck
Facing capture and prison bars
Facing death in the belly of a whale

And they would trust Him. And He’d step into what seemed an impossible situation and do a miracle. Then, the people would know that He alone was God and worship Him.

So this morning, I’m putting on my spiritual armor because in order to fight a spiritual battle you need spiritual weapons.

Ephesians 6:14-17(AMP)
So stand firm and hold your ground, having tightened the wide band of truth (personal integrity, moral courage) around your waist and having put on the breastplate of righteousness (an upright heart), and having strapped on your feet the gospel of peace in preparation [to face the enemy with firm-footed stability and the readiness produced by the good news]. Above all, lift up the [protective shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.

And, I will open the pages of God’s Word that guide and comfort me. I will fast and pray for my beloved America, and I will do my civic duty and vote in November. And I will lay my head down on my pillow on November 8th, trusting my LORD for the outcome.

“Listen to me, my people. Hear me, Israel [Yolanda], for my law will be proclaimed, and my justice will become a light to the nations. My mercy and justice are coming soon. Your salvation is on the way. I will rule the nations. They will wait for me and long for my power…Listen to me, you who know right and wrong and cherish my law in your hearts. Do not be afraid!” (Isaiah 51:4-5,7)

Yolanda

A Great Disturbance In the Force

Quoting from the great Obi-Wan Kenobi, “I felt a great disturbance in the force as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.”

Many Christians are feeling like Obi-Wan Kenobi. They feel a great disturbance in the force. And, just like Obi-Wan did not know that a planet had been destroyed, many Christians cannot pinpoint what the disturbance is exactly. They just sense it.

Some think it is just a crazy election year.
Some see the natural disasters in the world and think its global warming. Did you know that in the last 12 months there have been 8, 1 in 500-year, natural disasters in the US. Worldwide the number of record breaking natural disasters, like earthquakes, is staggering.
Some see the horrific civil unrest in our streets and they think it’s another civil rights movement.
Some see a rebellious and violent generation, without conscious or empathy, and they blame bad parenting or celebrity influence.

But none of these are responsible for disturbance in the force. These are just some of the ripple effects of destruction from a planet experiencing the birth pains of God’s warning and coming judgment.

So what is the disturbance in the Christian force?

It’s the Holy Spirit shaking us from our slumber and shouting, “Wake up, Bridesmaids! The Bridegroom is coming!!”

This is what Jesus is saying to His Bridesmaids (the Church):
My people perish for lack of knowledge. (Hosea 4:6)
They can interpret the weather but they can’t interpret the signs of the times? (Matthew 16:3)
To the non-believer, I will come as a thief in the night. They will be caught unaware.
But you, believers, [all you who believe in Christ as Savior and acknowledge Him as God’s Son] are not in spiritual darkness [nor held by its power], that the day [of judgment] would overtake you [by surprise] like a thief; for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We do not belong to the night nor to darkness. So then let us not sleep [in spiritual indifference] as the rest [of the world does], but let us keep wide awake [alert and cautious] and let us be sober [self-controlled, calm, and wise]. 1 Thessalonians 5:4-6 (AMP)

“Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is he who stays awake and who keeps his clothes [that is, stays spiritually ready for the Lord’s return], so that he will not be naked—spiritually unprepared—and men will not see his shame.” Revelation 16:15 (AMP)

So, how do we prepare? We study the signs and the seasons that God detailed for us in His Word.

Jesus told his disciples, "If a home owner had known when the thief would come, he would have been prepared and his home would not have been broken into. (Matthew 24:43-44) Jesus has told us, "I have told you the events that will take place in the future so that you can keep watch for the signs of my return."

God tells us to trust Him because He's the only God, there is no other, that controls the future. He tells us to study His Word so we will know what the future holds:
Come closer and listen, I have always told you plainly what would happen so you would have no trouble understanding. (Isaiah 48:16)
Remember the things I have done in the past.
For I alone am God! I am God, and there is none like me.
Only I can tell you the future before it even happens.
Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish. (Isaiah 46:9-10)
Everything I prophesied has come true, and now I will prophecy again. I will tell you the future before it happens." (Isaiah 42:9)
From eternity to eternity I am God. No one can oppose what I do. No one can reverse my actions." (Isaiah 43:13)

Satan has done his best to rob the church of Bible prophecy. Sadly, many churches today do not even preach on prophecy, yet 28% of the Bible is dedicated to prophecy. When we ignore approximately 1/3 of the Bible, the enemy gets what he wants, people living in apathy and ignorance, unprepared for the return of Jesus Christ. Satan has misled us, telling us prophecy is hard to understand, irrelevant, and unnecessary. He wants to keep us in darkness and confusion, but that is contrary to what God wants for His children.

God tells us to:
Search the book of the LORD, and see what He will do.
He will not miss a single detail...
His Spirit will make it all come true. (Isaiah 34:16)
And behold, I am coming quickly. Blessed (happy, prosperous, to be admired) is the one who heeds and takes to heart and remembers the words of the prophecy [that is, the predictions, consolations, and warnings] contained in this book (scroll). Revelation 22:7 (AMP)
And he said to me, "Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time [of their fulfillment] is near." Revelation 22:10 (AMP)

So, how do we prepare?

We watch, we study, and we share.

Jesus said, "Remember I told you that I was going to the Father, BUT I would come back to you...I have told you these things before they happen so that when they do you will believe and have faith in Me. (John 14:28-29)

As the days get darker and evil abounds, we have the blessed assurance and hope that Jesus is coming back for us! (John 14:2-3) But God does not want us to keep this hope to ourselves. He wants us to spread the Good News!!!

With this news, strengthen those who have tired hands, and encourage those who have weak knees. Say to those who are afraid, "Be strong, and do not fear, for your GOD is coming to destroy your enemies. He is coming to save you!" (Isaiah 35:3-4)

So, my fellow Bridesmaids, wake up!!! Have oil in your lamps (The Holy Spirit) because the Bridegroom's coming!”  And I can't wait! What a privilege it is to live in this season, when all the signs are unfolding before us. We were placed in this time in history for a God given purpose and calling! Jesus said, "When I return, I want to find you working for the Kingdom." (Matthew 24:45) So lets keep up the good fight, let's run the race with endurance, to reach for that prize that Jesus promised he'd bring back with him.  Amen!

Love,
Yolanda

The Internet, Left Behind, and Me

One of my favorite novels is Left Behind, by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. It put me on the path towards following Jesus wholeheartedly. If you've not heard of the book, it follows a group of characters left behind after the Rapture. They must endure seven years of Tribulation. After I read the book, I committed my life to the LORD.  Also, I felt compelled to share the Gospel with those whom I feared would be left behind.

Yesterday, I was talking to a friend about the very real possibility that the Internet will be transferred from US control to a foreign entity at midnight on September 30th. This entity could consist of nations who do not value freedom of speech or expression. Nations who control and censor the information permitted to their citizens, who persecute people of other faiths, and who limit the freedoms of women. Read this article: September 30th - Beginning of the End for Free Speech on the Net?

America may have its issues, but we are still ruled by a constitution that allows for freedom of speech, religion, and equality for all. If we lose the Internet to a controlling body who does not share these values, not only will we suffer in America, but also those around the world who rely on the Internet for uncensored information.

As I was discussing this with my friend, I told her, “I loved the Left Behind series, but I never expected to be a character in the series.”
She started laughing.
I did my fake chuckle because I was serious!
You see, in the Left Behind series, this group of characters called The Tribulation Force must hide underground. Christians are being persecuted and killed by the Antichrist. The Antichrist has taken control of the media and all forms of communication.

I know some of you are reading this and thinking, “Wow, she’s a conspiracy theorist and has an active imagination.” True enough.

But really, those who study Bible prophecy realize this is the next step in creating a One World Order. How do you control people without controlling the information they have access to? You don’t.

So, what do I do? Because I’ll be honest, the book series freaked me out. I remember having to read the books in small chunks because I’d have nightmares. When the book was released in 1995, I figured I’d be long gone before any of the End Times stuff started to happen.

Well, hello! I’m still here. So, now I need a plan B.

Here’s plan B.
  • Contact my congressmen and ask them to stop the transfer of the Internet by supporting the Protecting the Internet Freedom Act put forth by some Republican senators. There is a hearing taking place next week.
  • Then pray like crazy that God intervenes and stops this transfer. The Internet is one of the greatest tools for sharing the Gospel, especially to those who are not allowed Bibles. I pray that God keeps this door open. If He doesn’t then I’ll go to plan C.
Plan C:
  • Read and hide God’s Word in my heart. Reading God's Word keeps my focus on Jesus, the source of all my hope.
  • Share the Gospel as much as I can, as long as I can, by any means I can.
If we lose control of the Internet, the effects may not show up immediately. The change will be gradual. That's how the deception of the enemy operates. Eventually,we may lose the ability to write Christian posts, post scripture on social media, or worse. Some of you may read this and think, “She’s over-exaggerating.” Well, earlier this year, a nation passed a law prohibiting Christians from sharing their faith. And, I just read that the first arrests in that nation have begun. Will that come to my shores? I pray not, but in my heart of hearts I know that it will come eventually. God’s Word says that it will come to the whole world when the Antichrist takes over.

So, I need Plan G - God’s Plan!

This is what God says,
“Yolanda, MY plans are better and higher than your plans. (Isaiah 55:8-9)
So, stop brainstorming options and plans, because My plan will prevail. (Proverbs 19:21 MSG)
You don’t have to worry because the plans I have for you are not to harm you. They are to give you a hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)
So, don't let your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. I give you My Peace. (John 14:27)
My Peace, which surpasses your understanding, will guard your heart and mind. (Philippians 4:7)
So you can count on ME. Put your hope in My Word. (Psalm 130:5)
Remember who The WORD is – JESUS! He is called the WORD OF GOD! (Revelation 19:13)
In the beginning was the WORD, and the WORD was with GOD and the WORD was God. (John 1:1)
The WORD of God is perfect. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. (Psalm 18:30)
Do you really think I, the GREAT I AM, need the Internet to spread My Word?
MY WORD is alive and full of power. (Hebrews 4:12)
No one, and I mean NO ONE, can stop it.
My WORD will stand FOREVER!!! (Isaiah 40:8)
Heaven and earth (as it is known now) will pass away, but My words will never pass away. (Matthew 24:35 AMP)
The words I send out will not return to Me void (useless, without result) without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:11 AMP)
Remember the things I have done in the past.
For I alone am God!
I am God and there is none like me.
Only I can tell the future before it happens.
Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.
I have said I what I would do, and I will do it. (Isaiah 46:9-11 NLT)
You know, Yolanda, that in the Last Days there will be very difficult times. (2 Timothy 3:1)
But, strong and powerful is the one who carries out My Word. (Joel 2:11)
So, let all those who do nothing but dream – go ahead and tell their silly dreams.
But you who have a message from ME – tell it truly and faithfully. (Jeremiah 23:28-29 MSG)
So, keep it up. Don’t let anyone silence or intimidate you. No matter what happens, I’m with you. (Acts 18:9)
Look, I'm coming soon, and I'm bringing my reward with me to repay everyone according to their deeds. I AM the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End." (Revelation 22:12-13)

I don't know about you, but I'm going with Plan G!

God reminded me yesterday that I am not, and will never be, a character from Left Behind. I have put my faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior which means that God has marked and sealed me as His very own. Jesus promised to rescue me from the wrath that is coming. He will blow that Trumpet and call me up to meet Him in the air. So where He is I may be also. God gave us this promise in Isaiah 8:11-14:

The LORD said to me in the strongest terms: "Do not think like everyone else does. Do not be afraid that some plan conceived behind closed doors will be the end of you. Do not fear anything except the LORD Almighty. He alone is the Holy One. If you fear Him, you need fear nothing else.  He will keep you safe."

So what about you? What plan will you chose - God's plan or your own?

Love,
Yolanda
