A Very Preschool Christmas - Poem

Christmas time at Preschool
Should be all holiday and cheer
But let me tell you how it really is
And you may shed a little tear!

The teachers have great intentions
Lesson plans filled with crafts galore
But time just keeps on racing
Supplies we’re always chasing
What seems like good intentions
Turn into overwhelming chores

And then when all seems good
Our ducks are in a row
What can happen next, oh right, the Christmas show!
We practice and we practice, we’re just about to strike a pose
When one decides to throw a fit and another puts a finger up her nose

We’re in the final stretch with just days to go
The children are all covered in glitter and sick on cookie dough
We use the sugar crash to pull off the Santa to Jesus shift
And finally share the meaning of God’s greatest Christmas Gift

We think they get it!  It’s not about the presents underneath the tree
But about Jesus’ birth and what He did for me
So when the story’s over and we ask, what is Christmas all about?
The children smile and answer “Presents” with a loud and joyous shout

Oh well, we gave it all our effort and as they leave on holiday
They give us hugs and kisses and go on their merry way
And just about when we start to miss them and feel a little blue
We realize with a sniffle, little Johnny has given us the flu!
