Are in many ways the same
Children in transition - body and mind
Learning the rules to play life’s game
As teachers we are entrusted
By parents juggling
Loss of jobs, illness, broken homes
Our student’s families struggling
We think our children
Are immune – not really listening
But on their little shoulders is all the weight
Wearing masks to hide tears often glistening
So when a student comes into your class
Look past the mask to the child within
See lack of sleep (they require 9 ½ hours)
Lack of nutrition (most don’t eat healthy lunches)
Lack of attention from a world constantly
“plugged” in
Our encouraging words may be the only ones they
hear
Our actions can uplift or cause despair
Our classrooms a refuge from the torment of their
peers
Our teaching can be a gift but it’s up to us on
how we share
All the blessings you bestow will not go unnoticed
And though you may not get rich on this earth
Ever child’s life you touch with kindness, hope,
and love
Will come back to you - a treasure beyond worth
So thank you from a mom and preschool teacher.
You are very much appreciated.
